What do you have in common with the great historical character you play Shobha? What sets you apart from her?

Truth be told, I do not consider myself, in any way, comparable with a valiant warrior princess who managed to safeguard the interests of her land and thwarted the attempts of Mughal invader Ghaznavi to plunder the Somnath Mandir. She was made of a different mettle. I’m just a sweet girl next door making a sincere attempt to imbibe her body language, bearing, posture and poise. My agenda is to play Shobha convincingly and inspire the audience through my portrayal.

Tell us a little about your childhood. Where did you grow up? Any memories from childhood that stand out?

I went to St Louis Convent high school in Mumbai, as a kid, I was a complete tomboy who used to  get into brawls with boys. I have no clue what snapped inside me when I was in class 8. I turned over a new leaf and became all sweet, soft-spoken and began taking interest in girly stuff. Maybe it was the pressure to conform to the norms of society and be accepted as a woman. (Laughs) Anyone who’s met me post my transformation would find it hard to believe that I was so brash and boisterous earlier.

Any incident that made you find your calling as an actress?

My father is a cinematographer and has worked extensively across television shows. So to that extent, I always had the opportunity to observe the world of glamour from close quarters. On some level, I suppose I wanted to become an actress. But I didn’t do anything concrete about my dreams. While I was in the very first year of college, I was spotted by Balaji and got picked up for one of their shows. Later, I auditioned for ads and ended up getting selected at the very first go.

Who are you closest to fond of amongst your co-actors on Shobha Somnath Ki?

I bond beautifully with Preeti Puri who plays Maharani Gayatri Devi in Shobha Somnath Ki. She and I have a lot in common, be it in terms of shopping interests, music we listen to, books we read, etc.

What kind of clothes do you typically wear? Any labels you are fond of?

I like to keep it casual. Nothing beats a simple top and a pair of basic blue jeans. I wear brands like Mango, Zara, FCUK, Calvin Klein, etc

What’s the fitness regimen you follow? Are you very diet conscious?

Absolutely no gym for me, I find it very intimidating. I do like to use my treadmill at home, however, as it helps me beat off all the extra calories. I binge a lot, especially junk food. I think everyone should eat whatever they want to. After all, a little cardiovascular exercise can still keep you trim.

Your Favorite Holiday spot?

Goa

One actor that you’ve had a giant crush on?

Salman Khan. I have loved him right since his Maine Pyar Kiya days and his Dabangg magic still works for me.
